Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi
Last year, the UN declared June 21st as International Yoga Day, with the support of 170 nations, after Honorable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modiji’s clarion call to the world community to celebrate Indian yoga at the international level in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly in September 2014.
In his speech at UN General Assembly he also stated “Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. Yoga embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature”.
In the true spirit of “Yoga” – the Union, world leaders came together to support this initiative & with 175 co-sponsor nations this initiative had the “highest number of co-sponsors ever for any UNGA Resolution of such nature”. 21st June was declared as the International Yoga Day by the United Nations General Assembly on 11th December 2014. 21st June “One of the two solstices, is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and has special significance in many parts of the world.

Hanuman Jayanti – Chaitra Sud 15 (Poonam)

History of His advent:

Mother: Anjana – Father: Kesari > Hanuman’s childhood name: Maruti

According to the tales narrated in the Puran, Sage Narad once performed immense penance in the Himalayas for attainment of further spiritual enlightenment. The demi-gods tried to break His penance but were unsuccessful in doing so. Sage Narad was bound by ego when He came to this realisation and boasted to (Bhrama, Vishnu, Mahesh) about His achievements. This ego had to be broken for Narad’s own welfare in devotion.

Narad visited the kingdom of King Sheelnidhi where He fell in love with princess Shirmati and wanted to marry her. He came to know that the King had organised a Swayamvar (where a woman chooses her future husband among host of eligible suitors). He went to Lord Vishnu and asked him to make him as handsome as the Lord Himself. Lord Vishnu granted him the handsomeness of his physic but made his face look like a monkey.

Hastily, Narad came to the Swayamvar and took to His seat. The princess was aghast when she saw Narad who looked very ugly with His monkey face. Later Narad came to know of the trueness of His physic and in an emotional outburst cursed Lord Vishnu that He will suffer separation from His wife when he takes a human form. The Lord humbly accepted this curse knowing this will be the future event in the great epic of Ramayan. Narad later realised his mistake and also said that with the help of monkeys, Lord will be able to locate His wife’s whereabouts and be able to rescue her.

Anjani and Kesari performed penance on Lord Shiva to attain a son. They were blessed when Lord Shiva appeared and gave them a boon that His divine energy will be born through Anjana with assistance from Vayu Dev (Demi-God of Wind).

When Maruti, devoured the Sun seeing it as a big red tasty fruit, the whole world became engulfed in darkness. Indra broke Maruti’s jaw (Hanu) with his Vajra weapon. Unconcious Maruti was later given boons of powers and valour by various Demi-Gods and was then famously known as Hanuman.

Facts about Hanuman Ji:

Hanuman is known as the 11th incarnation of Lord Shiva, whose purpose of advent on earth was in the Tretayug to serve Lord Shree Ramchandra.

Later in Dwaparyug, He served Lord Shree Krishna during the Mahabharat by resting on Arjun’s charriot and protecting it from destruction. In Kaliyug during Lord Swaminarayan’s time, He served Him both during childhood and forest adventures (Van Vicharan).

Hanumanji is one amongst the seval Immortals (Chiranjeevi) as mentioned in the Bhaktchintamani in a conversation between Dharmadev and Bhaktimata. Until the start of the next Satyug, He is present in divine form ever engaged in the service of the Lord and also protecting His devotees.

In various Vachanamrut, Lord Swaminarayan praises Hanuman for His stauch and chaste devotion.

Gopalanand Swami established the idol of Hanumanji in Sarangpur where till today Hanuman Ji breaks the sorrows of those who seek His help. The entire discourse for this event is described in great detail within the 10th Kalash of Harileelamrut by Acharya Viharilalji Maharaj of Vadtal.

The history of the bonfire dates back to millennia, when the demon king Hiranyakashipu ruled and terrorized the universe and considered Lord Vishnu, and his devotees to be his arch enemy. When the demon saw that his own son, Prahlada, had become a devotee of Lord Vishnu, he became enraged and decided to kill Prahlada. But Lord Vishnu protected Prahlada during all the assassination attempts. In despair, Hiranyakashipu ordered his sister, Holika, who had been blessed with immunity from fire, to take Prahlada into fire and burn him to death. She complied, but to the dismay of the demon, Prahlada came out of the fire, unscathed, being protected by Lord Vishnu, whereas Holika was reduced to ashes. Why? Because she had been given that blessing by Brahma with the condition that it shouldn’t be used to cause harm to others. This burning of Holika is commemorated by the bonfire and by the name ‘Holi’.

Death is a very depressing and unavoidable situation which nobody wants to be a part of. It can be painful, merciless and sometimes sudden. But we have to experience not once or twice but 8.4 million times in the cycle of life and once you finish one cycle the next one begins.
Does that mean there is no way out of this? No, There is a way out of this and this way leads to Maharaj’s feet. No one said this path was easy.
Shree Swaminarayan Yuvak Mandal, Perth, summon you to join us on this epic experience, to give you an insight of what makes you so special to be the person you are today, in the life you’re living right now!

Mahashivratri means “the night of Lord Shiva” and falls on Falgun Vad Chaudas. This day is celebrated in honour of Lord Shiva, and marks his marriage to Parvatiji.

In Shikshapatri, Bhagwan Swaminarayan states that Vedas declare Narayan and Shiva to be equal, as Lord Narayan is the protector of life while Lord Shiva is the destroyer. Moreover the 4 Vedas state that the two are considered to be one. They share a single body and soul, just as a husband and his wife have the same body and soul. Shrimad Bhagvad states that those that see Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva as one being attain peacefulness. Because of this great significance, Shivrati is regarded as equally important as Ramnavmi and Janmashtmi, and a fast is observed on this day.

The reason behind this can be found in the Mahabharat within the story of King Chitrabhanu and his previous life. As the king sat in his palace, observing the fast along with the entire town, a sage asked the king the purpose of his fast. The king went on to explain that he had a gift – that which enabled him to remember incidents from his previous lives. In his last life, the king was a hunter in Varanashi and he made his keep by killing and going on to sell birds and animals. On one particular occasion, he was out venturing the forest, when darkness fell. He was unable to return home and sought to find shelter for the night, such was his luck that he found a Bilva tree, which he climbed and rested. He had caught a deer, and so tied it at the foot of the tree. Anxiety refused to leave his mind that night, as he continuously worried what his poor family would eat. Without realising, he began to pluck leaves from the tree and dropped them to the ground beneath him. The next morning, having sold the deer and bought food for the family, he returned home and was about to break his fast when a stranger approached him. Out of courtesy, he stood up, offered the food to the stranger and then sat to eat again.

At the time of his death, he was visited by two messengers of Lord Shiva, sent especially from Kailash, and it was only then that he learnt of his unconscious worship to the great deity on the night of Shivratri. For as he wept and dropped leaves to the ground, little did he know that there was a Lingam just beneath, and with the drop of each leaf, he shed the pure sorrow of his family, and he also fasted day and night, although he did not realise it, simply through the absence of food. As a result, the king spent a blissful time in the divine abode of Lord Shiva, before returning to be reborn as the King Chitrabhanu.

Bhagwan Swaminarayan also instructs householders in the Shikshapatri to offer Lord Shiva leaves from the Bilva tree – bilva leaves because they are symbolic of the trident that Lord Shiva holds. By making this offering, one can improve on their after life, and are able to attain anything in this life and the next, however not moksha, as only Bhagwan Swaminarayan himself is able to free you from the eternal cycle of life and death.

The Satsangi Jeevan states that on the night of Mahashivratri, Bhagwan should be dressed with brightly coloured garments, and His abhishek should be performed in the evening. Also, a pooja of bilva leaves should be done to Lord Shiva, and kheer and savoury dishes should be offered to Bhagwan, along with the performance of loving kirtans in his honour
